The Badlands of Atri
Also visible from the structure, gullies are the result of a particular desertification and conformation of the land which has created suggestive craters over the geological eras. Today they are a WWF protected reserve of 380 hectares all in the municipality of Atri.
Tower of Cerrano
The tower was probably part of a larger settlement born in the sixteenth century as a lookout fortress against pirate invasions. Today it is the seat of the protected marine park: 37 square kilometers protect rare marine and plant species, the plover nests here.
Taste
Licorice
Atri boasts a centuries-old tradition in the production of licorice and still drives the Abruzzo Region today with one of the major national productions. In the area the licorice plant has been worked on since Roman times.
The typical dessert of the city of Atri is linked to the dukedom of the Acquavivas who made it a dessert appreciated throughout the known world at the time. With the disappearance of the dukedom, production also decreased, but the recipe is still today made up of eggs, sugar, flour and almonds to which pure chocolate has been added since 1800, a fundamental characteristic of the dessert.
The Atriano
Pecorino di Atri, famous among cheese lovers, is a variety of traditional pecorino cheese between the provinces of Teramo and Pescara. Although it is very famous, its production is still almost exclusively home-made or from small artisan realities.
Lithium Beer
Documents and testimonies from the 8th century allow us to identify Atri as one of the very first centers in Italy for the production of beer. Today the tradition has been rediscovered by Az. Agr. Isola dei Calanchi with the Tenute Ducali brand, which produces the "De Litio" beer.
